HALO STORY PRODUCTS

…in order of publishing date, putting aside Halo: The Flood. (See the welcome page, note #3, for why.)

The following is pretty overwhelming, I get that. It's actually much simpler than it looks! If you stick to the core Halo games (1-4) and the novels labeled "core" below, you'll be fine. Everything else (so far) is basically just a side-story. Arguably, even the core novels are still side-stories.

LIST NOTES

If the title just had "Halo:" in front of it, I left that part out.

You'll notice a "Core" series of novels below. These are not official values, I simply added them to show you which novels make up the "core" narrative of the novels. Any novel without a "Core" value is basically a side-story and isn't pushing forward the main plot established in The Fall of Reach.

All the comics and movies (so far) are side-stories. Any game that doesn't have a number is a side-story.

Contact Harvest and The Cole Protocol take place years before The Fall of Reach novel, but I wouldn't recommend reading them before it.

The Forerunner Saga takes place 100,000 years before The Fall of Reach novel, but I wouldn't recommend reading the Saga before it.

The Fall of Reach comics are just adaptations of the novel and don't tell a new story.

The game Halo: Reach has a few deep "disagreements" with The Fall of Reach novel, but there is no official statement that it "ret-cons" the novel. Fans are pretty much left to deal with it.

* It's difficult to classify Spartan Ops. Of its ten episodes, one through five are included with Halo 4 as a side-story unlocked through a series of special multiplayer cooperative missions. All ten episodes are officially available for free on YouTube. None of the episodes seem to rely on the game portion (I have not played it).
